A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Taofik Gani, has called on President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate fairness and transparency by directing the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to publicly address allegations surrounding his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) record and past corruption claims.
Gani Challenges Tinubu on Transparency
In a statement on Wednesday, Gani warned that the growing perception of nepotism and selective justice under the current administration could erode public trust in its anti-corruption campaign. He noted that several petitions have been filed against Tunji-Ojo, including allegations that he absconded during his mandatory NYSC year but still presented a discharge certificate during his ministerial screening.
PDP Chieftain Calls for Accountability
Gani argued that if the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu are truly committed to fighting corruption, they must ensure that the minister clears his name or steps down voluntarily. “If President Tinubu and his party, the APC, are sincere about fighting corruption, the minister should be directed to clear himself or resign honorably like Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned after allegations of certificate forgery,” he said.
Calls for DSS Investigation
Meanwhile, Isaiah Ijele, Convener of the League for Good Governance, has also appealed to President Tinubu to allow the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the alleged certificate scandal involving Tunji-Ojo.
