Rivers State elder statesman and Niger Delta activist Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe has raised serious allegations concerning the final days of the state’s sole administrator, Ibok Ete Ibas. He claims that suspicious contracts valued at over ₦100 billion were hastily awarded just before Ibas left his position.
In a detailed interview with Symfoni TV, Chief Sara-Igbe asserted that massive transfers of state funds to contractors occurred mere days before the administrator’s tenure concluded. He stated that the sole administrator began awarding what he described as “bogus contracts” only two weeks prior to his departure. The activist provided a specific timeline, alleging that a single bank released over ₦100 billion for Rivers State between the 17th and 20th of the final month in office.
Critique of the Judiciary and Political Climate
Beyond the financial allegations, Chief Sara-Igbe also directed criticism toward the Nigerian judiciary. He referenced a legal challenge filed by twelve governors against the emergency rule in Rivers State, expressing frustration over the Supreme Court’s prolonged silence on the matter. “This is several months after, and the Supreme Court cannot say any word, cannot even hear them. So what country are we living in?” he questioned during the broadcast.
The elder statesman further condemned what he perceives as the systematic suppression of political opposition across the country. He argued for the preservation of democratic principles, urging that people be allowed to exercise their free will without intimidation. He explicitly linked the alleged financial misconduct with a broader pattern of undermining opposition, stating that the situation should not involve threatening citizens with what he termed an “illegal emergency rule” or enabling the looting of state resources. These allegations from a prominent Niger Delta activist have intensified scrutiny on the financial activities during the final phase of the sole administrator’s governance in Rivers State.
