Police launch cyber threat awareness drive to protect citizens

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enhancing online security. This initiative aims to protect citizens from cyber threats and promote a secure digital landscape across the nation.

IGP Egbetokun made this declaration at a one-day awareness campaign organized by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja. He stated that his leadership is fully prepared to ensure a safer digital space for all Nigerians. He emphasized that educating the public on online safety is crucial for fostering secure digital practices. This effort will also strengthen the country’s collective defense against evolving cyber threats.

The IGP was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Sadiq Abubakar of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID). He explained that the campaign underscores the NPF’s unwavering commitment to securing Nigeria’s digital landscape. The event was designed to empower citizens on how to “Stay Smart, Stay Safe” while navigating the online world.

A Collective Effort for a Secure Digital Space

In his welcome address, the Director of the NPF–NCCC, CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, thanked partners and stakeholders for their continued cooperation. He stressed that the fight against cybercrime requires a unified national effort. Henry noted that in today’s digital era, all Nigerians must be proactive guardians of their own cybersecurity, not just passive users.
