Residents in parts of Oyo town, Oyo State, are facing a power outage after a fire damaged a key electricity transformer last Friday. The incident occurred near the Isale Oyo Microfinance Bank in the Sabo area.

The Oyo State Fire Service confirmed the emergency. Chairman Hon Maroof Akinwande stated that a sub-distribution transformer belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) was the asset on fire. Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene.

Swift Response Prevents Greater Damage

Akinwande reported that agency officers, led by PFS 11 Makinde, promptly deployed to the incident. Upon arrival, they confirmed the IBEDC transformer was engulfed in flames. The crew immediately began firefighting operations.

They successfully extinguished the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other electrical appliances within the sub-station. The Federal Fire Service from the Oyo town Command assisted in the joint operation. Officials confirmed no casualties resulted from the incident.
