The Obidient Movement has officially denied any alliance talks between former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. National Coordinator Yunusa Tanko clarified that no pact exists between both leaders to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
This statement follows widespread speculation about Jonathan’s potential return to politics. While he may rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party, there are also indications he could align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Jonathan recently met with ADC leaders, including National Chairman David Mark and spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja.
Peter Obi’s political future remains undecided as well. He currently belongs to the opposition coalition that adopted the ADC and remains a Labour Party member. Recent closed-door meetings between Obi and Jonathan fueled rumors of a strategic partnership ahead of 2027.
Movement Coordinator Yunusa Tanko dismissed these claims. He emphasized the longstanding professional relationship between both leaders. “My principal and the former president have a very good working relationship,” Tanko stated. “Seeing them talk should not be interpreted as anything beyond platonic discussions on national progress.”
Tanko further confirmed there were no 2027-related discussions during their meetings, including one held in Ghana. He reiterated that the Obidient Movement is focused on advocating for good governance, not speculative political alignments. The movement continues to prioritize accountability and national development above electoral negotiations.
