Human rights activist and secretary of the Joint Action Front, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, has died. The prominent pro-labour activist was killed by a hit-and-run driver near his Ota, Ogun State residence.

The tragic incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025. The 65-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital but medical personnel pronounced him dead after resuscitation efforts failed.

Burial Rescheduled for Wider Participation

Aremu’s family has announced a new burial date for the late pro-labour activist. Originally set for October 13, the ceremony will now hold on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Final Resting Place and Legacy

The burial will take place at No. 30 Kabiru Fatoye Street, opposite Alaka Field at Ijako Sugar Bus Stop. The location is along the Ifo Road, Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway.

Aremu’s contributions to labour movements were significant. He established the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School to conscientize youth and develop future revolutionaries.

The pro-labour activist also served as Secretary for the Nigeria Movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara. He was active in the Nigerian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.

His work earned him the Friendship Medal from the Cuban government. They awarded this to outstanding internationalists like the pro-labour activist.

Lakemfa emphasized that continuing Aremu’s work would be the greatest tribute. He urged building a world founded on social justice, a cause the pro-labour activist championed throughout his life.
