Kano Court Remands Trio Over Robbery, Kidnapping Charges

A Kano State High Court has ordered three men remanded in a correctional centre over allegations of armed robbery, kidnapping, and causing grievous harm. Justice Hauwa Lawan Minjibir gave the order following the arraignment of the suspects on a four-count charge.

The defendants are Tukur Lawan from Korau village in Sumaila Local Government Area, Ado Usman from Makunturi in Bunkure LGA, both in Kano State, and Sanusi Suraj from Kubau LGA in Kaduna State. They faced charges under sections 97, 247, 272, and 298 of the Penal Code.

Details of the Alleged Kidnapping

The prosecution, led by Barrister Ibrahim Arif Garba, outlined the events of March 22, 2025. The suspects allegedly invaded the residence of Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u. During this invasion, they reportedly robbed the family of several mobile phones and injured one of Dr. Yusha’u’s children.

The central allegation involves the kidnapping of the doctor’s 25-year-old son. The prosecution told the court that the defendants later collected a ₦15 million ransom before releasing the victim. Following an investigation, law enforcement agents arrested the suspects and recovered ₦4.7 million from them.

Court Proceedings and Adjournment

During the court session, all three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Defence counsel Sani Ammani and Adamu Muhd represented the accused men.

The matter is scheduled to resume on November 19, 2025, for the commencement of witness testimony.
