The Imo State command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed an explosion last Saturday in the Umuneke Community of Mbieri, located within the Mbaitoli Local Government Area. According to reports that the midnight explosion left a newly completed family house in ruins.

It was said that the damaged building had recently been completed by a couple who intended to move in by February.

Reports indicate the explosion occurred late Saturday night, reducing the building to rubble. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

“The sound was massive as well as the bang. We waited a while and when we didn’t see any movement or hear screams, we decided to check, only to see the house in rubble.

“When our neighbours from neighbouring villages called to ask us the cause of the sound, that was when we went to check how safe we were.

As detailed in the complete version, there are several key factors to consider.

“The house was a bungalow and the couple just completed it even as they were planning to move in by February.

“It is so painful that all their efforts have become a waste because they can’t move in as planned again,” a local source, Iyke Njoku, told The PUNCH earlier.

Subsequently, in a telephone interview with Channels Television, the spokesperson for the command, Henry Okoye, indicated that while there were no reported injuries, an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

He noted that the blast impacted a newly constructed building that had yet to be occupied.

Okoye also mentioned that the Deputy Commissioner of Police, accompanied by the command’s Anti-Bomb Squad, had visited the site to ensure that any remaining explosives were safely removed.

He assured the community of the command’s dedication to identifying the cause of the incident and holding those responsible accountable. Residents were encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear, as the police are actively working to uphold security.
