JUST IN: One dead, several injured, palace destroyed in Ondo communal clash

A deadly conflict between the Owake and Ebo communities in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State has reportedly led to the death of a man, with several others sustaining injuries.

During the clash, a house owned by Omorinbola Francis, also known as Ekoro, was reportedly set ablaze. Victims of the violence were transported to the recently inaugurated Federal Medical Centre in Iwaro-Oka for medical care. An anonymous source revealed that the Asin of Oka-Odo’s palace and an event hall were among the properties destroyed during the unrest.

The source stated, “Suspected assailants believed to be from the Ebo community launched an attack on the Oka-Odo community late on Sunday. The palace, the event hall, and several houses were damaged, while Mr. Omorinbola Francis’s residence was reduced to ashes despite efforts to save it.”

The tension reportedly began earlier on Sunday when Owake community members erected signposts on lands along Ikun Road, in accordance with an Appeal Court ruling affirming their ownership.

On their way back, they were allegedly ambushed by thugs, leading to the violent confrontation that left many injured.
