JUST IN: Lagos Assembly issues stern warning to impeached Speaker, Obasa

The Lagos State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to its impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, urging him not to destabilize the legislative arm following his recent claims that his removal lacked due process.

In a statement signed by Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, lawmakers reaffirmed their decision to impeach Obasa on January 13 and expressed full support for the newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

“The decision to remove Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa was taken within our constitutional rights,” the statement read.

“Over two-thirds of the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are solidly united behind the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda. We stand by this decision and are committed to upholding good governance and fostering a harmonious relationship with other arms of government.”

The statement further emphasized that the Assembly members, representing various constituencies across the state, have the statutory authority to remove principal officers, including the Speaker.
