Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan has clarified his legal history after a direct question from Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The inquiry occurred during a screening session at the National Assembly.
A viral video posted by NEWS CENTRAL TV on October 16, 2023, captured the exchange. Akpabio specifically asked the nominee if he had ever provided legal representation for Peter Gregory Obi, the former Anambra governor and Labour Party presidential candidate.
Amupitan’s Response to Key Questions
When asked, “So, you have never represented Peter Obi or PDP?”, Professor Amupitan gave a clear and direct response. He stated, “I was not part of it. I didn’t represent them.” This confirmation explicitly denies any past legal work for the Labour Party figure. He further clarified that he was not involved with the Peoples Democratic Party’s legal matters either.
Expanding on his professional background, Amupitan also addressed another significant case. He confirmed that he was not a member of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s legal team during the 2023 presidential election tribunal proceedings. This series of denials paints a picture of a legal career distinct from these high-profile political cases. The nominee’s straightforward answers provided the clarity sought by the Senate panel during the vetting process.
