FA Cup: Why I benched Diallo for Garnacho against Arsenal – Amorim

Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim has explained his decision to bench Amad Diallo and start Alejandro Garnacho in his side’s FA Cup third round tie against Arsenal on Sunday evening.

Amorim released his line-up to face the Gunners at Emirates Stadium.

Diallo, who has been impressive for the Red Devils in recent weeks, was a surprised omission from the starting XI.

The Ivorian was benched as Garnacho started ahead of him in Amorim’s starting XI against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Speaking to the media before the kick-off, Amorim said he didn’t start Diallo because the player had a small issue during the week.

The Portuguese, however, insisted that Garnacho deserved to start because he is playing well for United.

“Amad had a small issue during the week and that’s why he doesn’t start,” Amorim said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Amorim added: “I like the way Ale Garnacho plays… he is playing well and he deserves to start”.

“The way he is training, we felt it was a good opportunity to see Garnacho start the game”.
