Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has addressed growing speculation about the potential defection of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Governor Mohammed confirmed that high-profile political figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, are poised to join the PDP should a vacancy arise.

Governor Mohammed made these remarks during a recent interview, clarifying that Governor Mbah has not formally notified the party of any plans to leave. He stressed that the decision to remain or depart rests solely with Governor Mbah as a fellow state executive. “He’s a governor like me. He’s not under me. He’s my colleague. I respect him, and I respect his decisions,” Mohammed stated.

Potential High-Profile Replacements

While acknowledging the Enugu governor’s autonomy, Mohammed revealed that the PDP is prepared for any scenario. He indicated that the party’s strength and appeal would easily attract major political figures to fill any gap. “If at the end of the day he leaves, we are going to have another person. Jonathan and Obi are coming. And that is what makes PDP tick,” the Bauchi governor announced. He expressed confidence in the party’s enduring allure, noting that such prominent individuals remain interested in associating with the PDP.
